What is a Facebook Business Page?
Before we dive right into creating your page, let’s cover a few basics. A Business Page is a public Facebook account that can be used by brands, organizations, celebrities, and more. It provides companies with the necessary tools to reach out to a bigger audience, create an online presence, and most importantly, build a community.
Note: Many businesses make the mistake of creating a Personal Account for their brand which hurts their engagement in the long run. If you have one we urge you to delete it and sign up for a Business Page.
How to Create a Facebook Page?
Now, let’s get down to business.
Step 1: Sign In with your Personal Account
For you to create a Facebook Business Page it is important to have a Personal Account registered to your name. This account will become the administrator of your Facebook Page once it is live. Don’t worry, your personal information will not be displayed to the public.
So if you are not logged in, now it’s the time to do it.
Step 2: Sign Up
You’ll will be greeted with the Create a Page form in which you’ll have to fill out the following:
- Page Name: Enter your business name or the name people are most likely to use when searching for your company. This is extremely important as it will determine how easy a Facebook user can find you.
- Category: How would you describe your business? In this field you are able to type up to three key terms that best encompass what your brand is about.
- Description: Write a short description (up to 255 characters) using complete sentences that describe what your business does and the services it offers.
If done successfully, the button: “Create Page” will turn blue. Click on it.
Step 3: Upload your logo and pictures
Great! Now it’s time to brand your Facebook Business Page with your logo and a cover photo.
The profile picture is the presentation card of your business, make sure to make a great impression by uploading your logo or a recognizable picture tied to your business. The resolution recommended is 170 x 170 pixels or above. Just remember, as it is shown in the screenshot above, your profile picture will be cropped in a circle, make sure there’s no crucial information in the corners as it will not be displayed unless a user clicks on it.
Moving onto the Cover Photo, we suggest using a horizontal photo that’s 1640 x 856 pixels. The cover for your page is a great way to showcase what makes you different from the competition or display any promotions or discounts that might drive business. Let your creativity run wild.
Click “Save” and let’s go onto the next step.
Protip: On the top right corner of your screen there’s a cellphone icon. Use it to see a preview of how your page will look on a smartphone.
Step 4: Link your Facebook Page to Whatsapp (Optional)
A screen will pop-up asking to connect your brand new Business Page to a Whatsapp number. You might want to do that for a couple of reasons:
- If you are looking to provide a more accurate/faster customer service.
- Whatsapp is your main form of communication with current or potential customers.
- You want to display your Whatsapp number on your Facebook Ads.
If any of these sound good, go ahead and enter your phone number and click on “Send Code”. Then you’ll receive a code on your Whatsapp with further instructions on how to finish the process.
If this is something you don’t want to do, you can click on the cross at the top right corner of the pop-up. Don’t worry if you ever change your mind, you can always pair your Whatsapp with your Facebook Business Page.
Step 5: Create a Username
Wait… how’s this different from the page’s name? Glad you asked.
Your username will be displayed in a custom URL created exclusively for your Facebook Business Page. That way you can be sure that anytime you share your Business Page’s web address people will see the right one.
Enter a name (50 characters long) and Facebook will let you know if it’s available. If you see a checkmark you’re good to go. A cross, on the other hand, means someone else has taken that username and you must come up with another one. This does not affect your page’s name.
Step 6: Fill the About Section
Congratulations! By now your Business Page is up and running, you are almost done. Although you can take a break if you’d like, it is important to fill out the About Section of your business.
Picture this: Someone looks you up on Facebook and sees an empty Business Page. It will not inspire trust with a potential customer and it is more than likely he or she will go somewhere else. Here lies the importance of constantly updating your page.
In the About Section you can establish:
- Business Hours
- Additional Contact Information
- Add a Call to Action
Step 7: Create your very own first post
For Business Pages (and the whole Internet for that matter) content is king. Upload engaging content that will drive in business such as offers, discounts or a “welcome to my page” post.
