In this blog entry we’ll cover the most common ones out there and hopefully point you in the right direction. Let’s begin.

Why choose SEO as a Career Path?

Aside from its raising popularity and increasing need, these are the reasons why you should consider SEO as a career path:

  • It is not a static field
    • As new trends and technologies emerge, SEO requirements change. There’s always something new to learn.
  • A growing industry
    • Many companies big and small are becoming aware of the benefits of having a SEO strategy. Either as a SEO consultant or in-house, there is a high demand for SEO specialists.
  • It is a versatile role
    • With many positions available you are bound to find one that matches your skill set and interests.
  • It mixes two of the most important digital marketing skills
    • An effective SEO strategy mixes both content creation and website coding. If you are experienced in any of those areas, choosing SEO as a career path will take your abilities to the next level.

Here you will find all the available SEO Job Titles:

SEO Trainee

If you are looking for an entry level position in a SEO role, look no further. SEO Trainees are those who are learning how SEO works. They are under the guidance of a more experienced employee and do not perform major tasks but focus their time and energy on off-page tools.

SEO Executive

Once the trainee has learned how SEO works, they can move onto becoming an executive that carries out  individual campaigns, content analysis, meta tags, descriptions and code optimization.

SEO Analyst

An analyst supervises the work of both the trainee and executive roles while analyzing campaign performance. They also do a lot of research to find out the best keywords with specialized tools.

SEO Strategist

As a strategist, this role focuses more on establishing the guidelines that will best work for any given strategy, client, project. Also, once the work is being done, the strategist analyzes the results making any changes and recommendations to make sure the goals are met.

Optimize your website

We will help you increase your website discoverability by improving the coding and content of your website.

SEO Consultant

If you are more than a lone-wolf then this position might be for you. Establishing a department focused exclusively on SEO can be expensive, that’s why many businesses seek out SEO consultants to help them with their optimization efforts and needs.

SEO Consultants make an assessment of their client’s reality and propose the next steps to be taken.

SEO Director

So let’s say a company decides to create a new SEO Department. As head of the team, the SEO director sets the goals, and lays down the foundation in which all the strategies will be carried out. A role of this hierarchy is usually found on internal marketing teams or in SEO-centric agencies.

As you can see there are multiple ways that you can take your career to the next level. SEO offers a wide range of responsibilities and roles with specific profiles. Some are more analytical while others are geared towards “getting your hands dirty”.

Where to find SEO jobs?

If your mind’s made up, then it’s time to start looking for a job. Like we mentioned, most of these roles can be found in SEO-Focused Agencies or on a in-house team for a big company.

Nonetheless we suggest you look on job boards online to find one that best fits your skills and interests.

Another great way to start your SEO career is by keeping an eye on job postings for companies you’d like to work in. Big companies are more likely to post job openings on their own website rather than on LinkedIn or classified ads.
