How to Make a Reel on Instagram
Reels is Instagram’s answer to the TikTok-mania in an attempt to retain its users, and even though some people believe it came a little late to the party, reality is that this new type of content is helping creators and businesses get tremendous discoverability and engagement on Meta’s picture (and now video) based platform.
To help you boost your Social Media game, on this blog post we will explain what reels are and a step by step guide on how to create them.
What are Instagram Reels?
Reels is the latest video feature on Instagram. It allows you to record, edit, and upload short vertical videos up to 30 seconds inside the app. It is important to explain that it doesn’t have to be recorded with your phone camera, any 30-second video on your phone can be uploaded. You can add music, effects, captions, stickers, drawings, and more to make it more unique and appealing.
Are Instagram Reels the same as Instagram Stories?
Although they share similarities such as covering the phone’s screen completely in a vertical fashion, Reels are longer videos and have a description in which you can include hashtags to increase visibility, whereas Instagram stories are shorter and disappear 24 hours after being posted.
How to create an Instagram Reel? A step-by-step guide
Step 1. On your Instagram homepage, tap the “+” icon and choose the option “Reel”.
Step 2. Add or record a video
Press the recording button at the bottom of the screen if you want to record with your phone’s camera. Or if you want to upload a video as a reel, press the square at the bottom left hand corner.
Step 3. Add music, change the playback and more
Once you’ve recorded your reel, you can add music, change the playback speed and more with the options on the left side of the screen. Note: If you’d like to record it again, you can press the square at the top left corner of the screen. Or, if you are happy with the results press “Next”.
Step 4. Edit the clips
Now you’ll see a preview of how your reel looks. On this screen you can edit the clips individually, add stickers, text, and more. Once you are done editing your masterpiece, press “Next”.
Step 5. Write a caption, choose the Reel cover and more
Lastly, you can write a caption, choose the Reel cover, tag people, and add a location if you want to. It is not necessary, remember it all depends on how you want the people to see your Reel.
6- Finally, hit Share and you are done!
Congratulations you just recorded, edited, and uploaded your first (of hopefully many) reels. But keep in mind that in order for it to work you have to create content that resonates with your audience. That way they will take their time to see it instead of going straight into something else.
